Fairfield Phoenix Baseball Club
Baseball in the Fairfield District started in 1972 when the then Croydon Park Baseball side was looking for a ground to play the game as most of the players were on the move towards the Western Suburbs and needed a ground to play on, they eventually found Fairfield Park and the Fairfield and Districts Sports Club Ltd where they settled and played Baseball. There were many different sports played at the club which included Cricket, soccer, darts, hockey, basketball, netball, bridge, ten pin bowling softball, bingo golf, tennis, etc. The Club was run by a board of unpaid directors.
On July 18 1975 Fairfield Districts Sports Club changed it's name to Fairfield Sports Baseball Club, Baseball became the main sport after all the other sub clubs folded and the late Brian Cooper became the President of the Fairfield and Districts Sports Club. The playing strip of Gold and Maroon, Gold pants & shirt with Maroon piping sweat shirt, socks and Maroon cap with Gold piping short socks to be Gold, and each player would now pay and affiliation fee of $2.00 and batting fees of $1.00 for each game played.
On 19th September 1975 the committee comprising Brian Cooper, John Cooper, Keith Hugh's attend Fairfield and Districts Sports Club meeting to announce the breakaway.
In 1977 The Coopers were running the show, President Brian Cooper, Hon Secretary Shona Cooper and Hon Treasurer Lyn Cooper.
In 1978 the price of beer in this club was 50c, affiliated fees for all players and supporters are $2.00 playing fee's included batting fee's and uniform, etc. $13.00, Student members playing fee's were free of charge.
20th August 1978 Fairfield Council agreed to lease the land for the new clubhouse, this proposal was sent to the Lands Department for consideration and approval.
In 1978 Tooheys sponsorship was $2000.00, uniforms on 15th march 1978, $27.00 for pants and top, cap not included. 1978 address for Baseball Field was Lawson St, Fairfield.
In 1980 the canteen stocked 6 dozen beers, 4 dozen soft drinks, 2 dozen pies, 2 dozen hot dogs for the day. Fee's went up Senior's $35.00, Junior's $15.00 students and pensioners.

In 1981 gaiters were introduced to replace socks. B.Cooper President, J.Cooper Vice President, L.Cooper Treasurer. Castle Wines sponsor of Fairfield Sports. Club made a profit of $800.00.
1982 Fairfield Sports Baseball Club sold block of land in Cecil Park for the sum of $74,035.38, this money was to fund the construction of the new clubhouse, Castle Wines go broke.
1983 Senior Fee's were $40.00 and Juniors $20.00, uniform deposit $10 refundable if returned in good condition, players had to purchase uniform if not in good condition. At the same time memo was sent out to all players that half the fee's had to paid by 1st game and full fee's by the 4th game.
17th May 1983 a committee member sent a letter to council requesting signs and speed humps to be installed on roadway to club which was called Honour Drive for the Fallen servicemen and women, it is now a Memorial walkway and Arch, entry is now beside the swimming pool, Brian Cooper suggested to wait till new clubhouse was built. A letter was also received advising that Fairfield Oval is not a race track and all players were advised to keep their speed down when entering and leaving.
The old tin shed is gone and on 18th October 1982 committee submitted for the construction of the new clubhouse, quotes $83,952.00, $70,437.00 and $73,050.00.
Tender of $73,050.00 was accepted and approved by the committee, The new clubhouse was completed on 21st June 1983. In 1991 cricket was lost to baseball and moved over to the football side of the park.
In 1992 upgrades were in place 13th May 1992 project cost $35,982.00 - 75% contribution $26,986.00 less club's payment to fencing contractor $10,500.00.
1993 floodlights approved by Department of Sports and Recreation and racing $15,000.00. There were 3 stages for these improvements 1st stage fence 1992 $10,500.00, 2nd stage training lighting $26,800.00, 3rd stage training and playing lights 1992 $40,000.00 stage 4 landscaping parking $6,000.00 stage 5 larger clubhouse 1994 $60,000.00, our club contributed 75% of the cost of stage 1 & 2 $28,000.00 in the last 2 months.
1993 4th August Fairfield United (Who)Baseball Club obtaining $15,000.00 towards lighting improvements at Fairfield Park.
Yes the club has changed since then Fairfield Districts Sports Club Ltd, Fairfield RSL, Fairfield Baseball Club and it's present name Fairfield Phoenix Baseball Club Inc.
1993 was a good year with several sponsors: Under 8's 1 Law Group Financial Services, Under 8's GT Videos, Under 10's Monza Smash Repairs, Under 10's 2 Eric;s Art, Under 12's R & J Small Goods, Under 14's C & G Romeo, Under 14's 2 Steve N Jack Engineering Fairfield Signs, Under 16's Service Powder Coating and Tip Top Bakeries who were the club's major sponsors.
Since the 1990's the club has had several Presidents Ross Smith, Richard Burnell, Keith Hart, Royston D'Abrera, Scott Smith, Darryl West (13 years) and Arnie KaraKoc (2014).
Over the years the club hosted the Auburn Orioles State League Baseball Club when they lost all their juniors, the clubhouse and Oriole Stadium and they became Fairfield Orioles, our club was the nearest club that were hosting junior sides at the time hence why the Orioles moved to Fairfield. Prior to the Orioles moving to Fairfield the club had 4 sides playing in the Pacific Coast Baseball League AAA Competition the sides were 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade and under 18's, the club also had 3 sides in the Sydney Winter Major League Competition 1st, 2nd and 3rd Grades where all sides performed to the best of their abilities. The club attracted quite a few NSW State League players to join the club and play in 1st grade.
The club at present is still open for business and are looking for Juniors and Seniors to play in both the Summer and Winter. The Juniors only play in Summer ages range from 6 to 16. Seniors both men and women. The club has also created a web site where anyone can view and also register on line, the web site name is www.fairfieldphoenix.baseball.com.au
The club is always on the lookout for sponsors and anyone who is willing to help out with improving the outlook of Fairfield Phoenix Baseball Club and promoting this great game of Baseball.
Without a doubt Fairfield Phoenix Baseball Club has one of the best grounds in the Sydney Metropolitan Area where many clubs who have played on it have made glowing comments, plus the club has a great canteen serving a variety of hot food and cold drinks including Ice Creams.
In recent years Fairfield Phoenix won the Club Championship in the St George Baseball Association Winter 2018 Competition, Minor Premiers and Premiers in Divisions 5 and 6. The club also entered a side in the Pacific Coast Masters League A Grade competition being held on Monday nights where we finished as runners up in the first year and premiers in the B Grade in the Summer 2019/20 Masters, the side is currently playing in the Autumn Masters competition on Monday nights at Blacktown Olympic Park Diamond 3.
